Gaya Street – The Sensational Weekend Street
Every Friday and Saturday night, Gaya Street transforms into the lively Api-Api Night Food Market, a must-visit for food lovers. From grilled satay and char kuey teow to local desserts and fresh juices, the air is filled with irresistible aromas. Enjoy street performances, buskers, and family-friendly mascots as you stroll freely along the closed street from 6 pm to midnight. a perfect way to experience Sabah’s vibrant nightlife and multicultural flavours.
Every Sunday morning, Gaya Street turns into a bustling open-air market selling handicrafts, plants, local food, antiques, and souvenirs. The street buzzes with locals and tourists from 6 am to 2 pm, offering an authentic glimpse into Sabahan daily life and traditions. You can even enjoy a foot massage by trained blind masseurs or get a custom portrait from local artists. Surrounded by popular coffee shops and local eateries, the Gaya Street Sunday Market is a must-visit cultural experience right in the heart of Kota Kinabalu.

Atkinson Tower
Standing tall on the slope of Signal Hill, the Clock Tower is known as the oldest wooden structure in Sabah that survived the bombings of Jesselton town (now Kota Kinabalu) during World War II. It was built in 1905 by Mary Edith Atkinson in memory of her son Francis George Atkinson, who died of malaria at the age of 28. He was Jesselton’s first district officer during the British North Borneo Chartered Company Administration.
The tower is next to Australia Place, which has hipster cafes as well as wine and dining establishments. Visitors must travel to the Signal Hill Observation Platform, which is reachable via a staircase from the Atkinson Clock Tower, in order to get a panoramic view over Kota Kinabalu City and the South China Sea.

North Borneo War Monument
Despite its prominent location, this monument is hardly known even by the locals. It was built by the North Borneo Chartered Company on Bond Street (now Gaya Street) in 1923. Originally intended as a tribute to honour British soldiers who lost their lives in World War I, it has since been expanded to include Australian soldiers who died in World War II.
One can still see it now at the city park, which is located opposite the Kota Kinabalu City Hall. A visit to this monument is included in a free walking tour that begins at the Sabah Tourism Board headquarters.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Park
The Marine Park is a cluster of islands; Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik and Sulug. Except for Sulug, the other four islands are easily accessible and commercially ready for visitors. Snorkelling, scuba diving, beach activities, water sports, and picnics by the beach are some of the activities visitors can enjoy.
Island hopping tours can be booked on the spot at the Jesselton Point jetty terminal. For diving activities, it is advisable to make a prior booking with a dive operator.
